Apprenticeship isn’t about picking up a machine and calling yourself a tattoo artist. It’s about learning a hundred small things that build up to the big picture. Most apprentices don’t realise how much there is to learn — they think they’re ready to tattoo when in reality they’re not even close.

The truth is this: tattooing is less than 10% about putting ink into skin. The real skill is troubleshooting when things don’t go right — because they won’t. Every client is different, every skin type reacts differently, and your technique has to adapt every single time. Apprenticeship is where you learn that.

What most apprentices don’t see is that a professional artist makes hundreds of micro-decisions in every tattoo session:

Adjusting needle depth constantly depending on skin type and body area

Switching between liners and shaders, or even different machines entirely

Increasing or decreasing voltage mid-session

Layering ink to build smooth gradients or bold contrast

Packing colour differently depending on saturation and skin tone

Changing stretch, hand speed, and pressure in response to how the skin reacts

Balancing line weight, tones, and composition on the fly

Even knowing when to stop before you overwork the skin

All of this happens while keeping the client comfortable, the workstation sterile, and the design flowing as planned. None of it is random — it’s years of experience and hard lessons turned into instinct.

The biggest mistake? Rushing into tattooing a “style” before you’ve even learned how to tattoo. You don’t earn your style until you’ve mastered the basics. Tattooing is one of the hardest art forms because the final result isn’t the fresh tattoo on the day — it’s how that tattoo looks healed. And if you don’t learn the fundamentals properly, your work won’t hold up.

That’s what apprenticeship is about: slowing down, swallowing your ego, and putting in the grind to build a foundation strong enough to carry a career.

OUR GOAL

This industry was built by artists who lifted each other up

  • You pack in pigment, but the skin gets overworked.

  • Clients bleed like mad, and your tattoos heal dull or patchy.

  • Colour blends look forced instead of flowing smoothly.

  • You feel trapped doing tattoos you don’t even like.

  • Your work looks flat on the body because nobody taught you about anatomical flow.

  • You’ve got vision, but you’re stuck doing generic tattoos.

  • Worst of all? You crave to be fully booked doing what you love… but settle for survival instead.

  • And even when you’re “busy”, your calendar’s still full of dips, cancellations, or dry months.

We don’t do high or low seasons.

Our artists are booked consistently, with projects lined up at least 2 months in advance—all year round.

If that hits hard, you’re not alone.

Most artists stay stuck because they never find the right environment.
